Its not fire fighters job to divert from their proper route back to base deliberately to harass people harming nobody but themselves. If it is, then I look forward to them doing similar to car park doggers of a more hetro nature. And if they are using the 'we spotted illegality' defence, why didn't they report it to the police?

If I might be permitted a slight correction without getting flamed?
"The dirty cunts were performing an illegal act in public"
It was the fact that the act was public that made it illegal, not the act itself.

As usual its silly things being taken too far, for no real reason. Had it been a heterosexual liason that had been disturbed would there be any fuss whatsoever ?

This story put me in mind of an incident in Glasgow where some rough, tough, firefighters who, since they didn?t agree with a homosexuality, refused to hand out leaflets at a Gay Pride march, as directed by their poncy PC council. As punishment they were ordered to attend an intensive ?diversity Training? course ? which sounds like some kind of Orwellian nightmare. The nightmare being that this is a true story. This is Brown?s Britain ? a land where ?thought crimes? are punished with a spot of brainwashing at a PC values indoctrination centre. A land where speaking your mind could, ultimately, land in you in jail. I think it is incredible that this situation has been allowed to develop in what was once a bastion of free speech without anyone amongst the intelligentsia and the media questioning it.

Note: The firefighters in question, who were ordinary working blokes, never said they wouldn?t attend a fire if a gay person's gaff was burning down or anything like that. They just didn?t want anything to do with the Gay Pride March or seen to be condoning or associating themselves with homosexuality.

I've hAd the great misfortune to sit through a whole week of Fire Brigade Union meetings, (as official photographer), and the absolute minute pointless detail they debate for hours on end is just breathtaking.

From calling each other 'comrade' when taking the microphone to hours spent discussing whether stocking fair trade produce in the canteen conflicts with their 'global warming' stance, I can well understand why anyone having anything slightly negative thoughts about anything race, gender or sexuality get thrown to the wolves. (Straight white males excluded, obviously)

Jesus....

I agree with Dibble when it came to handing leaflets out at the march. It's a voluntary thing, and not something you sign up to the fire service to do; being a copper who wants to pick and choose what events he/she polices is totally different. You're a copper, and you do your fucking job, regardless of personal preferences.

Being a copper and saying 'I dn't want to be police a gay pride march', is just like a fireman saying, 'I don't want to put out a fire in that gay bar'.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing Islam on here in the noughties - but things are much better now.

I remember the standard question at the time on the radio talk shows was, "would they have made a muslim fireman hand the leaflets out?"
