70's TV Show...Ace Of Wands

Post by algarve addick »

Does anybody on here remember this (in my hazy memory) classic kids tv series?
I don't remember too much about it, except the lead man - Tarot - who I thought was REEAALLY cool!

I was shocked to discover that "Tarot" himself is rather a short-arse jobbing actor, appearing in the likes of Taggart these days. He seemed way cooler than that when I was 10.

Yeah, and a regular panto dame as well these days, apparently.

I have hazy memories of this show from when it was screened in the early 70s (it's never been repeated, apparently), but one storyline in particular that stands out in my mind is one about a gas that caused nightmares so horrific that they killed you.

At the time, that was scary stuff for an 8 year-old to be watching at 5 in the afternoon - way more scary than anything that Doctor Who could come up with.

The third and final series from (I think) 1973 has recently come out on DVD (the first two series being "missing, believed lost").

Yes I did watch this show. I had forgotten all about it until about a
month or two back when I was watching a series on bbc3 or 4
about history of kids tv It was featured in one of the programmes and
brought back some happy memories

I do agree that it was quite scary for kids tv in those days

ITV made some good telly for children back then, seemed that their
shows were a bit more grown up than the beeb at that time
Much better than some of those dubbed foreign kids progs. that
BBC loved to show back then

And what was wrong with Belle and Sebastion I ask! also White Horses (which was a bunch of Froggies set in the Carmargue) was on the edge of the seat telly, with the best dodgiest dubbing ever.

The singing ringing tree was a bit spooky. Obviously - for that period -
state of the art East German production
Think that was the one they used to take the piss out of in the fast show
