I do take your point about oxfam, but although they do good work they are a business as well as having charity status.
But look at it from a business point of view, once you start charging prices that are clearly un-realistic, the public are not daft they wont pay, so your trade suffers, the cause suffers and the whole thing goes tits up.
Oxfam are one of the worst offenders imho at mis-management, they have thier own logo woven into thier carpets, most financially sound retail shops cant afford to do that, so clearly all the profit is not going to the cause they support, but to middlemen, middle management, PR, Advertising etc.
Just like a normal retail business, apart from my live and studio work, I have both on line and retail business's I cant claim tax exemption for charitable status.
