As stated in Stone's film: the CIA embarrassed Kennedy over the attempted invasion of Cuba and he planned to either close them down or put them under more control. Since they are trained to deal with the enemy, and their president was now considered the enemy, it was time to execute him.

Given the feelings about nuclear weapons at the time, and its proximity to the US, Cuban involvement in the assassination of the president would have been suicide.

All of this is pure speculation. It's unlikely we'll ever know what really happened. But the ones with the strongest motive for getting rid of Kennedy were the mob (RFK was justice secretary and was out for the organised crime bosses) and the military/intelligence communities. And the mob didn't have enough influence to arrange things so perfectly in Dallas.

Worth bearing in mind that most assassinations end with the assassin either dead or in custody in seconds. The first world war happened by accident. The people who should have killed the archduke missed, and his car went down a side street where another of the Black Hand group was waiting.

Dallas was just too perfect.

It would have been suicide for Cuba, agreed- but in any nuclear standoff, I'm sure it would be suicide for any of the protagonists with America, and indeed the world, coming off very badly.

I'm thinking it's more of a cover-up, in order to avoid nuclear catastophe, as opposed to an internal agenda. As you note, there was a suspicious military-esque perfection about Dallas.

As you say- this is all speculation, and more's the pity when one realises that we'll probably never know what actually happened; indeed, as we know, this applies to so many matters as far as America or 'history' is concerned.

I'm not idolising the Kennedys, JJ. Joseph was a loathsome bastard, all three of his sons philandering shits, and all in all possession of Kennedy DNA just seems to lead to alcohol or drug addiction.
