Charity shops lost the plot a long time ago when turnover soared and they became business orientated in terms of profit making instead of a source for generating much needed revenue and awareness.
Depends on there location but a large number are closing because the business side of things (prices to make large profit) has taken away the motivation to buy and support the cause for many.
Those still guided by the generating revenue and awareness motivations tend to do well but that also depends on location.
Believe it or not a lot of businesses are delighted that charity shops are failing because it is less competition for them.

Well to (kinda almost, in a roundaboutway) answer you original question Lizard, I believe some people do go into charity shops "thinking" they are going to get a good bargain and appear hours later arms loaded with overpriced shite ... a bit like ebay except you don't have to pay the paypal fees. But I believe some charity shop shoppers are actually addicted to shopping in these joints and the prices don't really matter as a charity wouldn't rip them off ... right??
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Seriously, who would want to buy a pair of used shoes, especially if the owner had died in them, although I expect you have a dressing room full of them eh? brouges and dead persons golfing shoes......you need to get some help with that bladder, take it out for some excersise a bit more....
