Like the language, names evolve over time, as well as phase in, and out of fashion.

I wouldn't like rules and regulations on what names you can give a child, regardless of the outcome of certain names and misspellings. These names just seem weird because for hundreds of years we were all pretty much similar in names. Give it another 20 years and all these weird names will be normal.

I like the creativity aspect of it, and I think it makes the child more of an individual. Parents who name their kid after a favourite artist, or band do get on my nerves though, and it comes across a little selfish - your kid may not have the same musical tastes as you!

Thank god for the deed poll

names used to signify your occupation but that died a long time ago so any word is open to use

The only thing that irks me is these poeple who insist on more than one middle name.Think the record stands ata ridiculous 117 in India
Utter fucking nonsense

I almost wonder what the point of a middle name is given its never used except in conversation "whats your middle name"

With some people, it gives them the option of changing horses midstream. I know a few people who have gone for their middle name rather than their official given name.

Wazza was speaking of Sweden and official lists of approved names. Worse than the Metallica couple were a pair who tried to give their sprog a mathematical equation for a name.

Oh, and people who call their sons "Richard" should always consider how the shorter version sounds with their surname. Dick Byrne may be a character in Father Ted, but dozens of people have the name that sounds like a genital symptom.
