Car key replacement

Post by Peter »

Anyone know anywhere I can get a transponder car key, replaced?

Basically, the button for opening the central locking fell off (taking the springy bit of metal with it, so I assume the circuit board will need replacing) and the dealer wants ?140 to fix it.

Any third party people do the coding needed, etc?

You don't say the make/model but if only the housing has broken you maybe able to swap your key blade, remote control board and transponder of into housing of a key from scrapped car.

Ways around transponder for immobiliser are limited and ?140 for new key and setting up is typical.

Sometimes remote control for door locking can be matched to another key - read your manual. If so CAREFULLY remove your transponder and blade and fit into replacement key.

Its toyota, and i'll think the pcb willneed replacing. Its still works if I push something metal in to make a circuit, but the spring which pushes he button out broke off with the button, and i'm sure no-one will bother soldering a new one on, even if they could get one.

I just wondered if there was a hi-tech heel bar somewhere doing it at a more reasonable price.
