You may be too young to remember the classic US comedy Soap, which kickstarted Billy Crystal's career. It did get a little soapy itself towards the end, but at its best it was just wonderful.

Too similar to what was already on australian TV
ie number 96 & the box

which is why i probably don't recall it
Too busy watching watching good times(jj dynomite) & the sweeney(didn't have clue what they on about but it was actionl)

We aussies used to actually make half reasonable programs back then
even some films as well before it all went pearshaped and neighbours & home & away were born

The early series of this show were really good, probably suffered
going on a for too long a run. LIke most good comedy progs. it had
a fine cast that blended well together

And yes I do agree that in a strange way Ms.Johnston did have
a certain sex appeal about her

All sitcoms are over-acted.

It is the way of things.

Not sure about your TV shows---Boney with Brit actor James Laurenceson playing an aborigine in the early 1970s, the Paul Hogan Show (a staple of the early days of Channel 4 over here), and Prisoner Cell Block H are about the only ones that come to mind. But I've seen some excellent Aus films. Best of the bunch (since I was never a Mad Max fan) were Peter Weir's The Last Wave and (particularly) Picnic At Hanging Rock.

lol @ stripeysydney - i agree though. Ricky Gervais gets right on my tits. Soooo unfunny.

However, i love 3rd rock! Have them all on dvd in fact. Good stuff to watch while me and the hubs are playing board games and stuff.

John lithgow(dick solomon)was the stand out for me

Not altogether insuprising when you read his Bio...stage actor broadway

Would have been interesting to see his take on the Dr Crane role on Frasier that he turned down
