To all you rich geezers out there that are on Broadband via wi-fi modems how much security is enough
I've been reading that if you use a wi-fi modem
you need extra protection besides your usual anti-virus & firewall to protect any possible misuse of your bandwidth...true or false?
I'm looking at 8mbs per second cable adsl2+ connection with a 12gb limit
Thanks for any help in advance

Re: Broadband security questions
That was what I thought but it don't bother me as i don't have naythig worth stealing on the computer
I've actually got a 10mbps modem set-up on the computer as back up
its just understanding how all these bit s & pieces fit together thats the headache
Its all a bit too much to take in
The option says...running a cable to the house but using a wifi modem
Their not charging anything for the modem/installation and throwing in 3 months for free
i think the only advantage of wi-fi is its ease of movement but then i've always heard the performance is less & securty is riskier
I suppose optical fibre cable(if its ever rolled out)would be the bee knees?

Re: Broadband security questions
henceforth my question about security
I read about a case where the guy did all the installing and it worked beautifully until the next door neighbours moved
I'm guessing the modem I have on my computer is probably sufficient
then but I'll take the free wifi modem all the same if it is
What about filtering?essential?

Re: Broadband security questions
I don't have cable TV but its the same concept,so they say
Everything I've read says what your saying, wifi is inferior, probably why its being pushed and given away for free
Vista is a bitch( I bought the dummies guide by woody leonhard then went with XP2 DOH!!!!)All that security but no anti-virus...the mind boggles
Anyways got to run cheers for your info
Food for thought...think I'll be looking further into what the modem is on my computer
