Anti-virus is really the only useful one IMHO

I surfed for 4 years without a firewall with no great scares
apart from the occasional dialer running amok...pulled connection...reboot

I'd never heard of firewalls(still haven't a clue as to what the difference is between hardware and software firewalls and why both are necessary)

Most computers are infected and its not surprisng when you read 29,000 new nasties are discovered everyday and 80 percent of them are on non-porn sites

Your right about the threat...tracking cookies should equal more spam but that hasn't happened so a fear campaign me thinks to make people buy software
