Who did it first then who covered it?

Post by Ace »

General idea, name an original song, then answer who has recorded versions of the same song.

To kick off:

You Really Got Me ~ The Kinks

Van Halen, of course.

Maybe better would be to name a very famous song, and then say who did the less famous original.

So, for example, the mega hit by Whitney Houston called "I will always love you".

This was originally written and performed by Dolly Parton.

Also an early Rolling Stones hit was Not Fade Away.

But not many people know it was originally written and performed by Buddy Holly.

Or "My Way" by Frank Sinatra.

Originally a French melody with French words. Paul Anka wrote English words (totally unrelated to the French words) and it became a mega hit.

In fact David Bowie wrote English words to the tune before Paul Anka did and his was called "Even a Fool Learns to Love"

"The man who sold the world" written and and recorded first by David Bowie.

Covered by Lulu who had a number 3 hit with it in 1974 (i think)

Was then covered by Richard Barone but remained an album track.

And was performed by Nirvana on the "Un plugged in New York" recording/album. Which (imvvho) is still the best version

Will look forward to reading through this thread!!

Cheers
