Euro dream over

Post by Pervert »

Yeah, we failed. Should really be able to beat the world champions at home, but at least we were still in with a shout in our last game and not depending on other teams to help us scrape through. The finals of a major tournament without Italy is unimaginable, and France not qualifying would have been a major shock.

Well done, Scotland. And good luck England on Wednesday.

Hard luck for Scotland. The officials were always going to give Italy a decision for them if the opportunity arose. Like you said, 'Italy not qualifying is 'unimaginable', especially from UEFA's perspective.

Uh? They could thrash Italy 8-0 and Scotland still wouldn't qualify, as Italy are above Scotland, and Scotland don't play again.

What if they do.

2 teams qualify, France and Italy are the top 2, and no one can overtake them, however the last results go.

The Scots blew it by losing in Georgia though - having already done the hard bit by beating France twice.

So in that sense, they only have themselves to blame and basically they threw it away in the penultimate game. A final game against Italy was always going to be tough, even at home, given that Italy also needed a result.

That said though, McCleish made a valid point post-match when he said that the the "50/50" decisions always go in favour of the "big" teams (as indeed do the "decidedly dodgy" decisions - which is probably what he really meant but was just trying to be diplomatic). It happens at both club and international level.

I am gutted for Scotland, would have been really nice to see them in Europe and the madness of the supporters.
I am almost annoyed that the England lot will probably scrape through and teams like Scotland played above themselves with pride for their shirt aren't going to be there.
And of course my lovely italian boys in blue are there again. sneaky little bastards those wops.

All this moaning over the Scots being robbed by a dodgy decision is bollocks. Yeah i agree that the Italy free kick was a bad decision but are people forgettin that Italy had a perfectly good goal ruled out and Scotlands goal was offside. The scots should look back at getting pissed on by a poor Georgia side that cost them more than one decision.
