Who remembers this Ben Elton sitcom of the mid 80's?
There was only one series. I recall it starred Rik Miyall, Ade Edmundson and Nigel Whathisface.
They really took a dig at the stars of the day such as Tarbie and Brucie.
Filthy, Rich and Catflap.
Re: Filthy, Rich and Catflap.
Brucie is still strutting his stuff (unfortunately).

Remember it well....in fact i've got the dvd. One of those lost treasures. Shame they had to cut out "Consider Yourself" from one of the eps due to copyright probs...perhaps the funniest scene of the whole series.
Re: Filthy, Rich and Catflap.
Magoo seems to think there is a second series lurking somewhere in the BBC vaults that was never broadcast.
Dead milkmen, black, ailed by the Nolans, Eddie as a physical Tybalt to Richie's Romeo. Wonderful.

Strange the things they have to cut out of DVDs due to copyright problems.
In the Young Ones TV series, there is a scene where Neil is having a bath in filthy dirty water, then the lights go out.
He has his guitar with him, and sings one line "Hello darkness my old friend".
Thats it, just the one line, from the Simon & Garfunkel song Sound of Silence.
But when they put it out on DVD they had to remove that one line.

I think what was done to the DVD releases of The Young Ones and Filthy Rich And Catflap was grippedness on the part of the Beeb. A result of them not wanting to pay royalties.
Don't know if the recently released complete Young Ones has put the removed stuff back in. Until it is "complete," I won't be buying it.

The BBC own or collect royalties from a company called BBC-EMI Music Ltd., which unsurprisingly they keep quiet about and which is administered by EMI Music Publishing Corporation.
For a time, songs published by EMI were listed on BBC DVDs, if the songs appeared in that programme.
Makes me think that all or some of the following take place:
The BBC only use EMI songs or BBC-EMI songs in their programmes; and if programmes are made or have been made published or administered by other companies, then these have to be edited out- possibly because EMI insist!
The BBC may have a free use licence to use EMI songs, as long as EMI get royalties and no non-EMI songs are used without EMI's consent.

Music - good news...
The new release of The Young Ones IS uncut with all musical performances and cues restored. There's a new musical clearance agreement in place which should see ALL broadcast music released on DVD without any trouble. This is a UK agreement only, so you'll still get substitutions on overseas releases.

Great news. Thanks, Ned.

I really enjoyed it, but it did not seem to take off after The Young Ones. I've got a feeling I may have got some of the episodes on tape. Problem is, back then I had a Betamax!
