Andorra is a condominion, I think---both Spain and France have some sort of say in it.

Swiss Guard? I don't know. I suspect they were chosen as foreign mercenaries because they had no connection, and it's turned into a tradition over the centuries. But Wazza is the historian, he may know.

The southern states you refer to formed what was known as the Louisiana Purchase.

Like lambs to the slaughter

The one party(australian democrats)that has no leanings to big business, churches, trade unions or enviomental nutters has been finally wiped off the map

Meaning the balance of the power is now held by the GREENS in the senate

If I didn't know any better I'd say Peter Garrett(green activist turned labour star candidate)is jumping with joy as he no longer needs to pretend to believe in his parties policies

If only Britain had held on to the Americas for another 20 years or so.

Little did the French know -or probably care back then- that America becoming independent meant an extra 60 years of legal slavery, and another 150+ years of no votes for Blacks.

The founding fathers could have written it into the constitution as part of the original bill of rights, but then it wouldn't have happened.

Slavery is an abomination.

Try Italy Deano

Pornstar ciccolina(spelling)got herself into the italian parliament on a platform of "if i let you play with my tits will you vote for me"

Political spin is as mind numbing as it gets i'm afraid

I wouldn't want each candidate to speak as we both know when politicans speak they rarely tell the whole truth

its null & void

Tne reason i say its a vote for the incumbents is that the opposition always need a swing to win so any vote not cast is a lost opportunity

Their both right of centre parties C so much of the same

The only real difference betwwen liberal & labour is that

liberals are like uncle scrooge when it comes to social policies

labour always spends like a drunken sailor on social policies

One day we might wake up and find they've gravitated to the common sense middle

They wouldn't have written it in because the very people they wanted 'on-side' were earning their living off slavery. Politics is politics after all.

Ironically they went out fighting against the British, for freedom, while the slaves kept the crops growing while they were away. I wonder if it ever occurred to them how hypocritical they were being?
