Comment: I loved the original series, although it used to give me nightmares as I was very young at the time...
Talking of Bigfoot, we should not forget the classic episode of the Goodies where they went in search of Bigfoot, which paid homage to this great series (with Graeme Garden''s specs on the skull at the beginning!!)

Interesting story about Arthur C Clarke. He lives, and has done so for many years, in Sri Lanka. A few years ago he was awarded a knighthood for services to astronomy. Clarke was unable to come to Buckingham Palace to receive the knighthood, so Prince Charles went to Sri Lanka to present him with it.
Royal courtiers got themselves into a pickle when they discovered that Clarke is gay and living with a much younger Sri Lankan man who was 18 at the time. The age of consent for homosexuals then was 21. There was talk of having his knighthood withheld. Eventually Clarke receives his knighthood, but in a very low key ceremony.
