Sopranos: WARNING: Spoiler alert!!!!

Post by one eyed jack »

Just finished watching The Sopranos the final episodes and have to admit like a lot of people I was a bit disappointed but then I'm still thinking about it.

Do you think what i think happened and it was too horrible to show why they ended it the way they did? I think it was way too open ended to really make out but it was still a clever way of ending it.

Not seen it yet, but a good ending is an unexpected shocker, a la Seven and Usual Suspects- has to be very cunning and original, hard to fool a wisened audience!

The thinker gets you ruminating, what ifs, scenarios- making it quite memorable......... always leave the door open for future series, the open ending, it's a safe insurance policy, IMO.

Yeah, OEJ, I'm convinced it played out the way you think it did. I thought something had gone wrong with my TV the way it halted so abruptly. Pure genius. You've spent six series up close and personal with this guy and then... snuff. Lights out. And quite frankly he got what he fucking deserved!

My theory...

He didn't die at the end.

A few episodes back there was a discussion about what happens when you get whacked and something about "You never see it coming, it just happens and that's it, it's over". In the series, Bobby saw it coming and so did most of the others. Phil Leotardo didn't though...

I think all that stuff about the end coming suddenly was about the viewers. You're sitting there watching people whose "lives" you've been a part of for six years, watching the scene in the restaurant and wondering where it's going, when all of a sudden Tony gets up in his chair, facing directly into camera, and it's lights out. He switches you off and life goes on for them, when they're ready to do a film in five years or so ;)

Of that I'm sure you will Snow Patrol. me and my missus blitzed it hard for two weeks on five seasons. Thats how hooked we were.

What a great series.

On reflection dont think it ended the way I thought initially. I think it was just edited that way to make it interesting and open ended in case they do a movie spin off.

Tony is a vicious murdering asshole but at times you do feel you understand him and its his occasional show of human qualities that make him likeable.

Phil Leotardo got what he deserved even if it was a bit hardcore. He was the guy you loved to hate. The editing and timing on his demise was superb.
