Re: Telephone Preference Service

There is a large fine for continuing to call a number on the preferred list after about 6 weeks on it. If the call is from abroad but is selling for a UK based company, then report them to the regulator. Same with silent calls where you have to wait for the caller to get to you. The fine for that can be tens of thousands of pounds. Again if they are representing a UK company, from abroad, complain to the reg. I hardly get any cold calls these days. If the operation is foreign then just say no and put the phone down.

My main complaint about foreign based (customer help) call centres for British services is that the company clearly considers contact with the public to be of such little importance they base the help line 1000s of miles from head office, the real place to get things sorted.

They aren't. I should have said both types of behaviour can attract a large fine.

Responding that I am not the person they are after always works for me

10 second phone call.....all over no bullshit explanations needed to be rebuffed

If that fails you just tell them that your currenty getting your services for free...govt concession.....sends them into perplexed mode immediately
