Quiet Life eh? Good choice.
If you want something more New York Dolls then go for Adolescent Sex or Obscure Alternatives, you won't believe it's the same band. These were the days of supporting Blue Oyster Cult!!!
John Punter came on board for Quiet Life (hence the Roxy Music influence), before then there were Gentlemen Take Polaroids, Tin Drum and Oil on Canvas (which was live and the last thing released before they split up). There were also Exorcising Ghosts and Assemblage released which were compilation albums.
Quiet Life and Polaroids are the two best albums musically (though Polaroids was never really finished and 'Some Kind of Fool' which never made it to the album, was only completed in 2000 when Sylvian released Everything and Nothing).
Tin Drum was the most commercially successful and I heartily recommend it.
They reformed some years later as Rain Tree Crow, but this had none of the 'New Romantic' sparkle. Still a very good album though.
As for Sylvian's solo efforts, Dead Bees on a Cake and the latest offering from his new band (Nine Horses), Snow Bourne Sorrow are worth a listen. Though his best is/was Secrets of the Beehive.
