"why should we pay more than double for petrol that other countries pay."

Hmm, good question. Could it be something to do with furnishing third world refugees with 1st world lifestyles (free homes, cars, motorbikes, TV's fridges, mobile phones, etc) when they simply present themselves on our doorstep? Or might it be to expand the public sector and social security provision to create an ever-increasing group of people who are beholding to the Labour government and Big Brother Brown? Makes you wonder.

"why is it that one in six new cars sold is a gas guzzling 4x4?"

Because they're fucking ace, that?s why! I've just been out in my bling-tastic X5, and apart from the tiresome 15mpg, to drive it gives one a precious sense of satisfaction and wellbeing. Sensations that are becoming all to rare in this awful grey age of Big Brother Brown and political correctness.

The Arabs are screwing the West by not increasing production, hence creating a demand.

The Government are happy, as are the tree huggers and Shell, Bp etc.

However I do know a lot of people who are curtailing runs in the countryside, shopping trips etc as the cost of Petrol/Diesel is starting to bite.

Glad my car does 40mpg+.

Roy Walker had a term for such ripostes on his politcal TV-forum, 'Catchphrase'.

"It's good, but you're not right!!"

If you live and work in the country, and have to go off road, then it makes sense having a 4x4. Otherwise, you are just a posing wanker.

Just my opinion, like.

Pedal power is highly enjoyable up in the Campsie Hills, or on the 22-mile Kirkintilloch-Falkirk Wheel cycle path.

I agree with you Carac.

I'm glad that petrol prices are increasing when I see these knobheads in their 4X4. Hahahaha I say!

And so you're happier running a 4x4 knowing your money gets into Saudi hands, and thus terrorism? You then pay higher taxes to pay for the combating of terrorism. One of the counter-measures of terrorism is a society which needs more security, and then you complain of Big-Brother watching everything we do........well, your 4x4 helped pay for it all.

The less we rely on oil, the less money backward, corrupt, women hating, freedom despising, genocidal governments get our money. We can then hold them to ransom, like they're now doing to us because they'd soon be skint and unable to fund their terrorist friends. Maybe then they'll realise that to stop becoming a 3rd world nation, they'll have to rely on building proper economies, and educating their children more. Letting their women out of their houses, and from under their burkas to go and contribute to the new economy; joining the capitalist world, becoming both consumer and provider of goods. This education may cause a middle eastern 'enlightenment' period and they may stop stoning women who've been raped, and hanging teddy bears in public squares? Who knows eh?

In turn, the people of the west can rightly point to all those unnecessary cameras on our streets, and never-ending security checks; the government would then have no excuse to carry on using such measures.

We fund both our pleasures, and our pains, in one way or another.
