and like I said, that one dimension usually leads to goals. I don't have to argue this point with anyone. I'm sure you can google how many assists Beckham has provided over the last 2 years (when he's hardly played).

Is anybody saying England have improved since Beckham gave up the captaincy, and was dropped?

Of course, he's too old to help get us through the next qualifiers, but to say he's not good enough for the team, right now, is mental.

"Capello- the youngest looking 61 yo I've ever seen!"

Compare him with 52-year-old Avram Grant, who has bags under his eyes that look older than Capello.

No guarantees of winning anything, regardless of the Manager

He'll certainly shake the team up coming in with no allegiances or baggage

I don't think until England get more depth in their elite talent pool will any manager be able to turn them into an outfit capable of beating a Brazil at a world cup

Too many players are living on past glories but who is there to replace them?

True indeed. Has Capello had a facelift?

I don't know, but it's a fair bet that Avram hasn't :-)

What is the bet that the England players "revolt" over this strict foreign manager then?? Seems to me that too many of the England players see playing for their country as some sort of "jolly" with their mates and a week away from their "real" job. Beckham will probably get his hundred caps but won't play in any competitive games as he is slower than my granny running for the bus ... but my gran is more commited in the tackle!!
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

For the last year I would have agreed with you on Gerrard as captain. I wanted him instead of Terry when Beckham first gave it up, but not now.

Did you catch Gerrard's post match interview after England were knocked out of the qualifiers? He said "Life goes on doesn't it?" - Well, yes, thank you for stating the obvious Stevie. At least McLaren & Sven before him had the decency to apologise to the fans. At least Beckham had a furrowed brow, looking disappointed, embarrassed, and a little angry. Some fans might have spent more than a weeks wages in getting a ticket, getting a long train journey to London, and organising a hotel, just to see England get knocked out, and Steve Gerrard basically tells them to 'get over it.' Funnily enough, Gerrard was 'gutted' when he was interviewed after the Liverpool v Milan CL final, but when his national side don't qualify for a major tournament then 'life goes on' where he can't wait to get back upto Liverpool and score 3 times in 3 games.

Back on to the Rooney thing: Again, Rooney has a better disciplinary record than Keane or Viera did, and you can't say they were crap captains. Terry's tried to mug referees of their cards, losing his temper, and Gerrard -your man- has been sent off for some nasty tackles in his time.

I think Beckham should still be captain until he properly retires, and then Rooney should take it, unless someone better comes along in the meantime.

The FA have grown tired of JT's attitude off the pitch as well, recently married, seems JT still wants to put it about.
Pity, he is a great captain at Chelsea

The West London of my youth is now on dvd
