Why do people buy so much food at Christmas?

Everyone seems to be doing a month's worth of shopping for the two days that the supermarkets are closed. Yet, if we employ logic, they shouldn't be doing anymore shopping than usual. And for those of you who say "oh but we need to buy so much because my parents, my brothers and/or sisters are coming over with all their kids" just hang on a minute. If they are all coming over to YOURS at Christmas, they don't need to do any shopping as they are "eating out"!!!

Best done early, online, or avoid having friends and relatives.

People tend to forget the real tragedy of Christmas: poor wee Hexy having to stagger home with the weight of a giant frozen turkey under one arm, and a 12-foot Christmas tree over the other shoulder.

Yes Christmas Shopping is a far, far easier task than venturing into your local Supermarket ... our local Asda is open 24 hours a day but the group of grumpy bastards shopping in it doesn't exactly fill you with Christmas Joy. Any chance of a quick splash and dash is always ruined by some fat bloated family buying up half of the shop in front of you and then moaning about the cost of a "weekly" shop ... eh??
I will plan my strategy later on tonight of either:
Going to Marks and Spencer
Putting an order in to Tesco Online who will deliver for about 4 quid.

You would normally say that Marks and Spencer is the more expensive ploy but when you shop online you end up buying more than you plan because you don't have to carry the fucking stuff.

I disagree. Online food shopping means i dont wander aimlessly round the aisles picking up crap. i just stick to my favourites list week in week out and am done with the whole ordeal in about 5 mins.

Depends on your discipline either way

If your shopping with the kids all bets are off
Never under estimate the power of persuasion when shopping in person
X-mas music makes me generally want to get the hell out of the place ASAP
but normally you'll find yourself humming along and hey presto buying stuff not on the list(especially those that don't have a list)

If your ordering online while on your 2nd bottle of red ditto

I don't buy any Christmas presents or cards and I don't receive any either. That's how I like it. !pleased! I'll splash out a wee bit on myself as far as grub is concerned, but that's all.
