The first time I watched Phil play was the Scottish Cup Final of 1991 where he was absolutely outstanding and showed what a "Rolls Royce" of a player he would have become if it wasn't for all the injuries.
I watched the game as a neutral as my mate was a youth team player for Dundee United and he got us all free tickets and that game and in particular Phil O'Donnells performance has lived long in the memory ever since.

It was some sort of heart seizure apparantley.Even more shocking,O'Donnell was about to be substituted as well,not that it's evident that would of made any difference,but certainly does make you wonder.

I remember in 1992 when Andy Townsend swallowed his tounge whilst playing for Chelsea in a cup game against Swindon.Certainly had me scared,i actually thought he was dead when there was no motion coming from him.

Very good gesture from the SFA to postpone Motherwell's next couple of games out of respect to O'Donnell.Besides,there's no way the players would be focused on the game.

Finally let's hope the old firm supporters can be at peace on 2nd January as this does put things in perspective.

Just heard on talksport that the Old Firm match on 2nd Jan has been postponed out of respect for Phil O'Donnell.

And why has the traditional New Year Old Firm Game bit the dust? Respect to Phil and his family but he is not a current player. The Tims are running scared methinks. Playing the game would have been more of a tribute.

There may have been a fear that elements of the opposition fan base might have chanted something inappropriate and started a barney. Not likely--- ex-Rangers hero Davie Cooper died while with Motherwell---but anything that might cause upset to the O'Donnell family should be avoided just now.

No point in saying Celtic are running scared. The game would not have been called off without Rangers agreeing to it. Anyway, some things are more important than football.
