As tradition dictates I saw in the New Year in the company of a few friends and relations, plus ?Jools? and his Hoothanany crew ? pausing around midnight to sprint out into the front garden and loose off a barrage of industrial strength pyrotechnics. I for one thoroughly enjoyed the show, and in particular Kylie, who, in her figure hugging dress, look absolutely stunning, gorgeous and heartbreakingly desirable. After last night?s show I find I now have a new dream girl - just when I was beginning to despair that the entire female population had ?turned chav?.
When Kylie emerged in the 80?s I dismissed her as a lightweight pop floozy whose 15 minutes would be up in an agreeably short space of time. Twenty years on I?m delighted to have been proved wrong. Kylie is a genuine star and talented entertainer in the old-fashioned sense. She?s got the showbiz poise and class that is so woefully absent in almost all of today?s vacuous, mundane, celebrities and so called stars.
Oh, and by the way ? HAPPY NEW YEAR! And all the best for 2008 (including mart).

Happy new year Dibble, you ol' shit-stirrer, I usually watch a bit of Jools Holland at the weekend if mrs. Sydney is on nightshift, caught about three quarters of the show; not bad, even if they'd faked the Christmas thingy.
On the point of the Minogue, I think that she's pandered to the "friends of Dorothy" brigade for too long. However, she doe's have one redeeming quality, and that is the duet she did with the Australian 'prince of darkness', Nick Cave, you must know it, the one where he sings about "caving"(geddit) her head in with a large rock:
Which is why I think that particular song never sold very well among the lavender hill mob, they just didn't get it.

Dibble, surely if you gave many of '..today?s vacuous, mundane, celebrities and so called stars' 20 years to develop their act they'd eventually come up with something ?
Personally I didn't find much value in what I saw of Jools' Hootenanny. Just a lot of all-round smugness with the exception of Seasick Steve. The audience's enthusiasm for S Steve was because they recognised his authenticity which was a blessed relief from the fakery and backslapping that most of the other guests were indulging in.
Acts like Macca and Madness have paid their dues .. it just all seemed like schmaltzy showbiz to me, but that's okay. You found value in it and enjoyed it, I didn't. I don't wish to convert you to my point of view, i'm just expressing an opinion. Agree to disagree.
