Turn off your overhead light, thats whats causing the yellow/goldy glow.

If you need that light on to see what your doing, buy a daylight balanced bulb, they are around ?10-13 on the net, this will also help with general lighting as well til you get the studio heads.

Head Wise, for you anticipated needs you don't need Bowens gear or Courtenay just yet, so for about ?300 you can buy a couple of portaflash heads, a couple of brollys, a couple of stands, a sync cable and if ya shop around maybe a softbox too.

Basic setup, then once you need to upgrade you will already have the stands, brollys, sync leads etc and just replace as and when

A couple of things could help improve the photo and remove the flash shadow.

Rotate the camera the other way, so the flash is to the left; the shaddow cast would then be behind you on the wall based on the angles in that photo.

You've got the camera set in a "fully" or "part" atuo mode... so its trying to keep the natural light and use the flash to boost the brightness... hence the colour cast, which actually I think works as it makes it feel more "readers wife" style.

Depending on the camera (I'm guessing its a canon somethingD? or a Gsomething) it can be better to use the manual settings and just set 1/120 at F4 to F8 and iso 200 and then let the flash/ettl do all the hard work.

Out of the kindness of my heart and because I am on a personal crusade for good photography, I can pop round, take all my clothes off and cuddle you.

I am sure the change in outlines caused by my appearance would remove the shadow.

It really would be no problem at all for me. I am purely working to provide the guys on here with quality photographs.

check white balance and then iso and/or what F number.

My final advice to you is to book a daylight studio and load up with some daylight film, Kodak Ectachrome Professional for example, then take some shots by natural light, if not try outdoors.
You are a horny looking chick with a dirty look and that is what I would do.
