PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

By that time they'll be running on vegetable oil or god forbid 100% ethanol

fancy planting crops to harvest for fuel so the vehicles doing the harvesting & transporting can get the job done....madness

95% of Indians won't be able to drive never mind own a car. Henry Ford had the idea of motoring for the masses and it helped America develop, the same happened in Europe with Renault, Morris, Mercedes etc. Why should we be able to own a car and not Mr Singh in Delhi?

This is with only 7 out of 1000:

Still a way to go yet before gridlock.

I never said they shouldn't

Over the next 20 years you've got 2 huge populations of 2 billion and growing and if they follow the wests routes our fate is sealed IMHO

My point if any is that they shouldn't be repeating the mistakes of the West

All new cars should be using the best emissions technology not the cheapest or outdated like the Chinese are using on their state sponsored car

Whats missing...traffic lights...lucky bastards

Reminds me of dodgem cars ;-)

Would be curious to know what their accident tally is per day

Personally I favour models like a few brazilian city Curitibia

although i somehow suspect 3rd world countries are well beyond this

I think that most people agree with you DB. Trouble is, they'll see it as the west trying to stop them developing further.

I was reading an article earlier about India producing the cheapest mass market cars - although still priced out of the range of most Indians.

Number 1 job that most are aiming for is in the call centres

Tells you a lot about how low the wages are over there
