Saw this one last week

Pr?te-moi ta main (I Do: How to Get Married and Stay Single)



Very, very funny.

And it has Charlotte Gainsbourg in it who is gorgeous.

Couple of months ago I saw

La Vie en rose - the life story of Edith Piaf. A lot heavier but still a very good film.



I would much rather watch a French film (subtitles and all) than any Yank film with a big star. You see the stuff Hollywood turns out with Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise etc - they are utter crap!

You can't go wrong with these three:
La Haine - set in inner-city Paris against a backdrop of racism and police brutality; Chirac forced his cabinet to watch it. Some beautiful cinematography, yet hard-hitting, funny, thought-provoking. Film-making genius.

Rififi- about four ex-cons who carry out one last robbery in Paris. Amazing, brilliantly acted, with an incredible robbery scene.

l'Appartement- a stylish suspense thriller with a twist. Great film. Hitchcock-esque and fullof real surprises.

Also check out Jules et Jim, les 400 coups, Diva (not everyone would agree on this), Cach? (Hidden)- this last one is quite unusual- about a guy who is sent anonymous packages containing videos of the street where he lives, and the effect on him and his family. Clever and has a real twist.
