Les Visituers aswell before I forget, which does show that some people in France have a sense of humour. Re-made into " Just Visiting" about 5 years ago.

Fahrenheit 451
Alphaville & Week-End
Cach? (Hidden) - fantastic, and I'm currently waiting to see Haneke's American Funny Games remake. The original is one of the most uncomfortable films I've ever sat through.

Why re-make Funny Games though? The original is malevolent, genuinely unsettling and intelligent and common sense tells you that American money will tend to lower the bar with respect to these.
Will they cast unknowns? If not you have preconceptions about the actors which means it won't work as effectively as the original.

Jean de florette
AMAZING film and lighting, in which every shot could be a painted picture. I've noticed this about french films there's also one based around a swimming pool (yep with a cute bird) and one that includes a murder with a lesbian scene (shot bettter than any porn scene i've ever seen) and the women always wear stockings in that one too. I cant name ?them, can any1 help?

Depardieu has already been mentioned with Return Of Martin Guerre, but also worth watching are Danton, Tour Les Matin Du Monde and especially Cyrano De Bergerac.
How I could forget Amelie, Delicatessan, Farenheit 451 (in English, but French director), La Femme Nikita, Les Diaboliques . . .
Let's just say, there's more to French films than Gaulloise and Alain Delon.

Steve,
I love French films because they show that with a small budget, a talented actress like Brigitte Bardot and a good script then a masterpiece can be created. I am thinking of God Created Women directed bt Roger Vadim.
Mike Freeman.
