Spike Milligan was diagnosed as manic depressive (aka bipolar). Barrymore could well be bipolar but I dont think anyone knows for sure. If he is, that would give him and advantage in getting into the mind of Milligan.

One day, somebody will post, mentioning some celebrity, and you'll come on and say that they had no mental affliction at all.
On that same day, 72.6% of forumites from this board will drop down dead from shock. If you ever feel the urge to say such a thing, please warn us to find a suitable seat before reading on.
It may just save someone's life.

If you knew anything about Spike Milligan you would know that he was highly mentally unstable and he was diagnosed at the time with manic depression.

Are you familiar with his WW2 memoirs? Being both hilarious and at times deeply sad, they reveal quite a lot about what made him the way he was. And though they cover a relatively short period of time compared to his TV/radio days, any biopic worth its salt should have them central to his being.
