A laptops life span.

As you may know I have a laptop (I'm using it right now), and I was wondering just how long their life span is before the inevitable ageing problems come to fruition?

My lapper I've had now for about 21 months - although I know it was built in July 2005. I'm starting to have a few glitches with it - e.g., the click button on the touch pad gets stuck and moving the cursor around is causing a few headaches.

Sorry mate, I've always had a desktop, which gets updated with parts every 2 years.

The only laptop I've owned is my exes Powerbook which she purchased in LA about 2 ? years ago. Still works perfectly.

until recently, ive only ever had laptops and ive found that mine start playing up after about a year/18 months. my usage is long and hard tho.

i honestly think laptops are better for low usage really as a new laptop annually isnt cheap especially when its a TOTR sony vaio.

p.s. the mouse pad is usually the first thing to go on a laptop. my old laptop is still in use but with a wireless mouse now.

I'm a heavy user of my laptop. I'm on it virtually every day for many hours. It's just been in the past few months that I've encountered these small problems which I fear might escalate into bigger ones as the time goes by.

What do you mainly use the laptop for, Trumpy? What budget etc?

Surfing and downloading.

Somewhere around ?300 to ?400. I'd need one that has 1GB of RAM. Not Vista.

Have a look at this.

15.4" widescreen, & core2 duo, and high def audio, which means it'll be ok for watching dvds in bed. 120gb hard drive should get you by unless you torrent movies constantly.

1gb of ddr2 ram which is 4x more than you've got now, and best of all it's installed with XP Pro and not Vista. Takes upto 3gb of ram for future upgradability (when Microsoft comes in with a new OS).

Bluetooth, earthnet and wireless etc etc.
