I don't think the musicians should carry any responsibility and it's up to them if they want to speak out against drugs.

Although the 60's was before my time, most bands in that era dabbled in drugs especially the likes of Pink Floyd,Led Zepp and The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, who's songs famously carried drug taking undertones.

It would be very hypocritical of them to preach against what they practice.
We are responsible for our own actions and we certainly don't have a gun to our head.

Recreational drugs is fine imo,as long as it's done in moderation and in the right frame of mind.

The thing is when they were all doing these drugs the effects of drug use were not as widely known, so they could have then had more of excuse for the whole "it helps my creativity" shtick.

Now the damage drugs cause (not just the user but society as a whole) is well known these musical geniuses of today are just dickheads especially as the drugs they are taking have never had the myth of helping creativity.

I dunno, in the 60's and 70's it was fairly obvious what the effects of over doing it were,

just look at Sid Barrett, Joplin, Pete Green, Jim Morrison, Hendrix etc etc

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

I don't think that drug taking made, say Keith Moon a better drummer,Hendrix a better guitarist or Lennon a better songwriter.

Drug taking amongst musician's or pop star's is more of an 'image' thing and if their fans want to emulate them, then that's their lookout.

I can't see the likes of Amy Winehouse or 50 Cent telling people not to take drugs.I used these two as an example because that's who the youth of today look up to !shocked!
