DVD converter

Post by hairypussylover »

Does anybody know the best dvd converter program in the market today? I mean, in terms of capabilities, reliability, price, availability worldwide.

I want back up some dvds I have, but I don't want fill up my hard drive so I want to convert the films into .avi or .mpg.

Am I going to have to do a 2 step process? Burn the DVD first and then convert the files?

Cheers!

mp(e)g comes in various flavours.

DVD are MPEG2. DivX is MPEG4.

I understand what you want to do but every time you process a video file there are quality losses and while newer formats like MPEG4 can store the same level of quality in less space there is a trade off between file size & quality. The same applies to conversion time.

With decent blank DVD's for 20p each why just not make copies?

100 DVD's in a case don't take up much space - unlike 100 video tapes.

Thanks for the advice. I'd like to keep my files in digital format simply because I'll be moving a few times around the country this year. The loss of quality is no issue to me at this point.

So the quest still remains what's a good if possible free dvd ripper/converter.

www.download.com has softwares for free, only trial ones.

I did see this one by googling:

I tested the software but had no luck :(

Thanks Tez,

I"m looking for DVD to AVI that is to convert a traditional DVD to a smaller format (MPEG or avi)

I do NOT want to pay for it. Paid ones are easy to find.

Thanks,

Why not just use nero
Allows you to upload non copywrited dvds to your hard drive and you can also shrink the size of the files at the same time
Might be best if you keep them as vob files so you can save yourself hours of work if you ever want to print them back to dvd
