I met him once years ago at a charity do organised by Joanna Lumley and he was quite sociable and friendly and apparently its reckoned that he has raised over ?30 million for charity in his time. R.I.P.

It was easy- too easy- to denounce him; and his later TV work got sadly worse by the series. But Game For A Laugh changed the face of British light entertainment- and it got me through 11 and 12 yo winter Saturday nights.
