Radiator cold spots

Hi Folks

This may be a long shot but as jack of all trades exist on Planet BGAFD I was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of cold spots in radiators please?

Mine is a very old house and unfortunately the person in it prior to me was a DIY enthusiast.

He has installed them so the water flow comes in at only one end !confused!.

I've been told that was the wrong thing to do and they (all the radiators although its just one that has the cold spot) and my boiler because of were it is located need to be replaced.

Sounds dodgey to me, it is British Gas saying it but the full job is expensive.

Anyone aware of any other solutions please?

Before going through the costly route suggested by British Gas you should try to find out if you are eligible for any grants for heating and energy efficiency that may save all or most of the cost of replacing it yourself.

You've probably tried this already but try bleeding the radiators with a key.

If not, you should have a small tank in the loft which feeds off the main tank.
Check the water level and if it's low, push the lever with ball on down until it rises to the right level.

I have tried the key its the only option I have limited knowledge about, but it didn't work.

I was told about some stuff you can put in the system but the name escapes me.

Er, the waterflow comes in at one end. yep got that,

But the system links up to all the rads surely, so the water must go 'out' as well.

I'm a radiator expert - believe me, we've had enough probs with ours. Have yours got Trv's on them (basically thermostats)? cos i might have a solution for you

Where your boiler is placed is of no consequence unless its 5000 miles underground. If your house is v.old the you might want to up-grade to a more efficient boiler.

Any job carried out by BG is going to be expensive.
