is it as simple as a scart lead from vcr to dvd or have i missed a few steps?

make sure both aux channels are like for like as well, ie AV1 to AV1 and yer video isn't encrypted, you'll be fine

Even I can do it and I'm extremely 'technologically-challenged'.

Like Ace says, as long as your VHS isn't encrypted you should have no problem.

i just bought one for that very thing from dixons. I bought the cheapest hifi stereo one they had.
I put a scart in the back and just reeled of every music video/concert not out on dvd onto my sony cd/hd player. And burned them to disk no problem. Its legal cos you are allowed to make a back up and only illegal if you sell.
