Bastard Bureaucrats? Council Cunts?

Post by Officer Dibble »

After hearing that a kids pancake race, that has been held since time immemorial, had to be cancelled because of mounting Heath and Safety bollocks, I was left wondering which type of public servant I despised the most - Social Workers or members of the Health and Safety Executive.

Last month there was the case of a school crossing lollipop man being suspended because he dressed up as Santa for the kids, just before Xmas. The council cunts said there were strict H & E regulations to adhere to and that every Lollipop person had to be wearing high visibility clothing... Er, excuse me. A big bloke in a bright red Santa suit standing in the middle of the road on a damp grey December morning not fucking visible enough? What a set of poncy twats, eh?

And there was another case that stuck in my mind - a local geezer who for years has been doing one of those CoCo the Clown acts for kids parties has been forced to call it a day since the snotty heath and safety twats suddenly deemed that his crazy foam was dangerous (the kids might slip on it) and his bubble blowing machine was a hazard (his bubbles might poison the children)!

So which flavour of Guardian reading bureaucrat would you like to thump the most?

Must agree..these zealots love nothing more than a headline or two to make them think they're powerful.H and S is an issue we know but ridiculous pronouncements like this by 'managers' are ridiculous.

Fashionable though it is to slag off the Health and Safety bods, a few other facts might be worth taking into consideration. In order to go ahead, public events need to be licensed. Part of the licensing aspect is being fully insured to cover any injuries. What is causing the cancellation of so many of these things is the high cost of insurance.

As far as I'm concerned, if people know the dangers and are still willing to take part, then it's up to them. Perhaps they should sign something to say they won't sue the organisers of such events.

Seriously, though, that nutter event involving chasing a huge cheese down a steep hill---how mad do you have to be to do that?

It's the insurance that did for the pancake race, the people who organised it just couldn't be arsed with their bullshit any more. Had an anccident and it wasn't your fault? Then don't fucking try racing with a pancake down a cobbled street you daft cunt.

You can't sign away your right to sue for personal injury in current law, such a contract isn't recognised by the courts.

Quite right too, if it stops Jackass type events passing on the cost of lifetime care to the state for someone who gets seriously disabled arseing about on a wacky stunt.

Although I agree many things have gone too far.
We have need of you again, great king.

A couple of days ago, some Brit lost his life on the Italian ski slopes after the mattress he and a few others were using to slide down a ski run smashed into a tree.

A number of years ago, someone forwarded to me a report of a law suit in the US (and a pic, which thankfully I didn't look at) where some guy wanted to sue Black and Decker for not having a warning on the box of the drill he bought against using it to deal with an itch on the inside of his nose. Yup, he tried to relieve the itch with the drill switched on.

At what point does utter stupidity become the fault of those who own the means of the injury, or the location where it happens?

Seems that the authorities are damned if they do legislate for human recklessness and damned if they don't.

quite true, it has become fashionable to slag off HSC almost in the same way it's become fashionable to slag off global warming

in reality it's not the HSC who should be blamed it's the wankers who try to sue every tom, dick and harry whenever a minor accident occurs.

'Someone bumped the back off my car....sue 'em, whiplash that'll pay for a new set of windows'
'little jonny felland grazed his knee making a slide on the school playground...sue 'em, holiday in barbados this year' etc etc

therefore insurance premiums go through the roof and managers can't afford to cover the cost, hence what used to be a chance of something minor happening can't go ahead anymore.

We should look to overselves before finding the easy targets to slag off

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

I think the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) have got to perform a delicate balancing act between on the one hand preventing accidents and on the other hand preventing those who want to get involved with stupid stunts, that if or when go wrong, who want lock into the compensation culture that has increasingly become epidemic.
