How can it save money? Coppers have been catching crooks and doing their own paperwork since time immemorial.
Shorter shifts for starters. A copper cannot -or should not- go home until all paperwork is sorted. That means extra hours on double pay/time & half. A copper doing less hours, and less paperwork is a less stressed copper which usually means less time off sick in all careers.
So how can bringing in loads more bureaucrats on 25k a year to do jobs that were already being done by police officers make any kind of financial or business sense?
I doubt that someone sat behind a desk, filling in forms will be on ?25000 a year. Your average copper starts on that.

Getting in admin could get more coppers on the streets, which when taking into account the costs of crime, and it's clean up, on society, it would save much more than the wages of these administrators (?25000 a year or not). Less businesses would need to close due to burglaries and stolen gear.......less insurance costs due to lower crime, which could mean cheaper products, or higher pay for employees.......which mean they pay more taxes. A knock on affect, as it were.

To quote a commentator - "The British Crime Survey is not a satisfactory method of recording crime. Not only does it cap the numbers, it also misses out whole sections of crime. For example, it does not record crimes against under-16s."

I fear we must agree to differ on this issue.

And there, in a few short words, is what is wrong with politics in this country. Too much of what happens is kneejerk reaction to newspaper headlines. I don't recall voting for The Sun, The Mail, Express or whichever rag is pontificating on the wrongs of our society, so why do they get to dictate policy in Britain?

Because they are read by the great unwashed, who still have the vote. For now at least.

Yeah, and rather than say what is actually happening, these papers put a spin on it in order to provoke a reaction.

We rightly slam politicians for their use of spin, and they face questioning over its use. As a result, people trust them less. So who do the hyserical, screaming headline writers answer to?

I was posting a link from the BBC's news website - not a red-top muppet rag.
