I'm glad someone agrees with me that this is a bad idea.

I for one won't go halfway around the world to watch my team.I don't care about being a global market.These people were not supporting my team back in the 1980's when we were yo-yo'ing between divisions every season.You being a City fan would know exactly what i mean.

Its an absolute fucking disgrace, and as much as I despise Sepp Blatter and his ilk at FIFA, I think he is spot on when he says he will do everything to stop it.
Its purely a financial ploy, and nothing to do with promoting the game to far flung places.
Living in Hong Kong through the 70's, I saw several top teams come and play exhibition type matches, these ranged from Liverpool, West Brom, New York Cosmos and Brazil, and they were a great sucess, but it WAS only a friendly against supposed top opponents in Hong Kong (who were regularly slaughtered) and got ex-pats out to see some decent football.
They should just stick to this OR those poxy Asian Cup games where a couple of top notch teams are invited to take part, but NOT to take it as an extra league game.
At least Harry Redknapp said about the plan as he saw it, a pointless exercise to cash in.

very true Ace.I want to see FIFA reduce the Premiership to 18 teams,thus playing 34 games as opposed to the 38 we play atm.At least i think that's what FIFA wants as well.So surely that shoots Scudamore's brainchild well into the water.

This has all materialised from that NFL game that was played at Wembley and the success of the Premier League Asia cup which is played just before the season starts.Chelsea and Newcastle took part in the inugural one back in 2003(Ranieri's reign).Ace wrote:

Fucking Scudamore should be axed in his position.
Fully agree that the Premisership should be whittled down, but appreciate the shittier teams at the bottom should get more revenue from higher teams, but into development and not some greedy chairmans pocket

that too i agree that the mediocre clubs should get a slice of the pie,as should the lower League clubs.

It's obvious the 'Johnny come lately' fans that live in Asia,America etc are being targetted in this franchising idea as the Premier League has become global since it's inugaration in 1992.

the likes of Scudamore simply don't want us there.Us being the one's that have been supporting our teams before the PL was born.

Can't see many Chelsea fans travelling all the way to Melbourne or Beijing to have a 'meet' with the Yids or West Ham !laugh!.

It is greed pure and simple on the Premier Lge's part and obviously goes with there idea of total global dominance in the overseas TV rights market, which, lets face it, they probably have already, so why the need for this?

The problem is that there has to be a fair chance that Premier Lge and the clubs will ratify it as they need 15 of the 20 clubs to say yes to it. Therefore with some clubs in foreign ownership and the fact that all the clubs, including the smaller ones, being offered a reported ?5m each on top of the original TV money, then money will talk and common sense will walk.

I hate the idea of it but unless FIFA or UEFA block it then sadly I think there's a decent chance it will become reality and not just talk.

If FIFA block it,which i hope they will then a breakaway will be the next move,which FIFA can't stop happening.The Premier League will become a level playing field with little money and TV involvement.

The fans can stop this happening by boycotting matches.Can you imagine Chelsea v Liverpool or Arsenal v Man United televised in an empty stadium?.

That would be the ultimate wake up call to Scudamore and his cronies,not forgetting the spineless FA,who are only supporting the idea because there's something in it for them.eduardo wrote:

Fifa should block it and some of the other football federations like Japan's J Lge and Australia's A Lge don't appear to be too chuffed with the idea of a rival Lge invading there territory so it's up to them to petition Fifa to block the Premier Lge's global plan.

However I can be quite cynical at times and being cynical here then I still think this has a chance of getting through.

Why? Because of the money. Could Fifa or the Japanese or Australian Football Federations be persuaded to accept some "sweeteners" to drop there objections?

Don't think that can't happen as Fifa have a history of accepting such "gifts".

It's all down to TV money and it's no secret that the TV deals in the UK for the Prem Lge are believed to have reached or are very close to there peak.

The Prem Lge TV rights for the overseas market are still believed to be in there infancy. The last overseas deal saw a massive increase and the next one is believed to be in for a similar rise and that's the crux of this situation here because for the Prem Lge to be able to increase the overall TV deal then it has to increase it for worldwide market as the domestic deal is near to saturation point.

That's why the Prem Lge is looking for this "39th game" as they believe this is the key to more overall TV money but this time from the worldwide and not domestic markets.

I hope this 39th game never actually happens but because of the money involved then it does have a shot (albeit an outside one) of actually happening.
