Charity muggers

Post by Shelley Louise »

Those annoying bloody people who stop you in the street and try and make you feel really bad when you say no!

Do they piss everyone else here off?

I had one on my doorstep wanting my bank details for blind kids, she came out with the line 'don't you think blind children need help'

I was so tempted to say, no they are a drain on society and should be expelled from the gene pool, just to see the look on her face

I bottled it

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

Easy way to shut them up, just ask how much their commision is for peddling such and such 'Charity'. Suddenly they arn't interested as much and tend to slope off muttering..

Does seem a bizarre practice

we're warned not to give our banking details out over the intenet to anyone but a stranger on the street or over the phone under the guise of a charity can ask for them with impunity

Should be outlawed

The amount of money being wasted on administration in the charity fundraising sector because of duplication is truly staggering

I know why some would be sheepish

Being paid 40% of a donation before the charity takes out its admin costs(10-20%)is hard to explain

Sorry to do this but as someone who worked in the charity sector until only recently I am afraid I have to point out something.

You aint allowed to ask for money, shake a tin and do the other blah blahs in the street.

IF someone does this the solution is simple and that's call the Police.

IF the 'charity' is a charity the consequence for them is massive.

That doesn't mean it doesn't happen but if it does and 'pisses you off' so much then you are entitled to do something about it and perhaps more importantly should do something about it.

We never did house to house simply because the organisation I did my stuff for was to small and didn't have the resources to do it but again IF they are abusive or argumentative after saying NO call the Police.

They should be licensed and that license should have set conditions.

Also please remember the vast majority of the BIG players employ collection firms to do this work they aren't the volunteers who give their time for nowt for the organisation.
