Which leads me to think armed guards on campus would be a smart move

I'd never call for a total ban on guns just a more regimented approach to how their sold and to who their sold

When you consider that in 14 states people can buy a gun whike receiving medical treatment for mental illness you've got to ask where are the priorities

Yes the criminals will please themselves but their not the ones committing these massacres

Their ordinary people who just snap

Guns give them the ease of playing out their revenge fantasies

Make it harder to access Guns and most of these massacres wouldn't even get off the ground

Your probably right

When you consider the size of the campuses and the sheer numbers,
the recent one i think said 25,000 students,
Even if only .1% were feeling depressed, suicidal and looking for revenge
thats a hell of a lot of ground to cover for anything other than a small army

I was speaking recently with someone in Texas who as a joke posted a picture holding a glock & an AK-47 dressed as a recent terrorist

Its not hard to see how these incidents occur when guns are so readily available

All it needs is the catalyst

"Their ordinary people who just snap"

Not so, these mass shooters are people with mental health problems, who don't take their medication. That was the case here, the guy sounds like he was perfectly normal before he developed a mental illness. The USA seems to have a real problem in treating mental health. I expect that, like us, they have closed the hospitals down.

What's the fucking point of a 'gun free' zone, inside a country where 40% of adults have one stashed under their pillow? That's just lunacy.

Since making Washington a 'gun free' city, more people are getting killed because those that drive out of the city and come back armed are then at a big fucking advantage.

The whole country needs to grow up and realise that you can't have gun-free zones on one block, and gun-toting on the neighbouring block.

As you say, there's no point at all, it's just a political feel good thing that means fuck all in practice.

Another case of an attention seeking wanker waking up hating the world and everything around him.

We've all had our hard knocks in life,it's all part of the growing up and learning process. You win by picking yourself up again and getting on with it.

Please no one blame this on obsession with violent films and computer games.

I've watched enough violent films and played games such as Hitman and Grand Theft Auto etc but i don't go out killing all and sundry.

Whoever sold this basket case a shooter must have blood on his hands today.

The best thing this fella did was turn the gun on himself.

"Another case of an attention seeking wanker waking up hating the world and everything around him."

I'm not sure I agree. I have heard interviews with people who knew this man, and he seems to have been a perfectly normal academic until he became mentally ill, and when he stopped taking his medication this is what happened.

"Whoever sold this basket case a shooter must have blood on his hands today."

Again, I would disagree if he bought the guns legally, which seems to have been the case. It seems the gun laws in Illinois are similar to any European state. He needed something called a Firearm Owner's ID Card, similar to a shotgun or firearm certificate in the UK. To get this he had to have a criminal records check as you would in this country, and his purchases all had to be recorded. He bought a shotgun and three pistols; obviously in this country he could not have bought pistols, but that's not true of most European states. He just wasn't flagged up as someone who was not allowed to own guns. If the USA had proper mental health care for people like him this would not have happened, but we can hardly talk, as our mental health care is pretty poor here too.
