They're all doing this now Eric. I even noticed this occurring now on BBC2. It's part and parcel of ALL broadcasters rushing to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
ATV

You're not wrong, Trumpton. That was when the rot began to set in, but things have got progressively worse ever since.
As recently as 1999/2000, you still got 48 minutes worth of actual program in a one-hour slot on ITV (I know this as I still have off-air tapings from that time and earlier).
And back in the '70s it was nearer 50 minutes. Nowadays you get 44 minutes tops. The remaining 16 minutes is ads.
It's as if TV companies these days are run just by bean-counters and ad-men, who regard the actual programmes as a necessary evil.
To be honest, as far as I'm concerned things have got so bad now that I rarely watch live TV any more (news and the odd bit of live footy aside). And if there's a programme or series that actually want to watch (again - rare these days) I'll try and tape it to watch at my leisure so that I can FF through all the fucking adverts.
And why, oh why do broadcasters think that these on-screen DOGS are necessary? We fucking KNOW what channel it is, thanks!! We don't need its name boldly and permanently emblazoned in the top corner of the screen to remind us.
