we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester
Re: Dodgy 'local beers'
Makers of the awesome Spitfire!
Re: Dodgy 'local beers'
Good find Diplodocus. Must be just the cans that are only Old Peculiar now. Can even buy that in my local Tesco's. Their Best bitter was beautiful. A friend once won one 3 crates when you could get it in cans.... just checked their shop and no go
although fancy their chutney - http://www.theakstons.co.uk/shop/cat_pr ... p?cat=Food

you could try Black Sheep, normally sold in Asda, made just down the road in Masham by the same family (hence black sheep)

Re: Dodgy 'local beers'
Now that's a good brew. My Local tesco's sell that as well. Seem to recall they also brew a chocolate ale...

My nearest brewery is Fullers based in Chiswick. They're responsible for London Pride and Directors as well as the famous and highly rated ESB and Chiswick Bitter.
Shepherds Neame in Kent also do some great ales such as Spitfire and Bishops Finger.
I'm mainly a premium lager drinker but it is good to break from the norm every now and then and trying out some of the Great British ales !drink! !thumbsup!

Re: Dodgy 'local beers'
It's obvious though certain ales have their big seller locations.Ie:London Pride sells by the bucket load in London,Greene King in Suffolk and so on and so forth.I guess people will stick with what they know.
I've heard Old Speckled Hen is a decent brew?

Shock, horror, good London beer.
Mrs Sidney and I was in 'The Smoke last weekend 'havin' a butcher's at the The Terracotta Army Exhibition ( totally excellent dudes) after which we sampled the local beverages in surrounding hostelries and we have to say, the beer was well quaffable! Young's E.S.B. being one of the best.
I was living in London in the early eighties (Life on Mars is not accurate) and all the bitter was absolutely rancid, Watney's Red Barrel being the main offender; vile.
On a side note, when we 'wuz suppin' outside of t'pub on the next table was the author, Peter Ackroyd. Don't know if anyone knows him but I was chuffed.
