Keegan To Receive P45?

The board backs him (usually not good):

Keegan will be kept on till the end of the season with Wisey taking over in the summer though Mr Ashley will make an audacious bid for Jose Mourinho.

Like i said in a previous thread,Newcastle are flirting with relegation but they'll be safe come the end of the season.

But Keegan's day's at SJP are definetley numbered.

On the flipside and to be fair to Keegan he took over at SJP when the January transfer window was days, even hours away from closing,so his preparation time was very limited and he can only work with the resources he has.

Not even Fergie,Wenger,Jose,Ramos,Capello could turn the current Newcastle team into winners.

Newcastle are very lucky there are worse teams below them in the table who will not improve a great deal in the closing months of the season, though Newcastle have a nightmare of a run-in
West Ham (a),Chelsea (h) Everton (a) (i think)

I just hope this does'nt turn into a 'let's bash Newcastle' thread.I certainly don't want them to go down this season.

i'm rooting for Reading to join Derby and Fulham.

Newcastle's saga reminds me of the Peter Swales era Manchester City. Sacking managers every other season will only result in relegation eventually. City brought back Malcom Allison in 1979 just as they'd got to the quarter final of the UEFA cup. He sold off the best players, brought in virtual unknowns and spent a fortune on very mediocre players. Result City lost the quarter final legs (they were favourites along with Borussia at the time to win the tournament) finished 17th in the league, followed by a dreadful opening to the following season which saw them without a win in the first 12 games. Allison was sacked and the hope of a return to the glory days of the late 60s well and truly shattered. Ironically John Bond took over gave them respectable finishes in the league under his reign and also took them to the FA cup final. The point is Swales was always interfering which also led to Bond walking out and City were relegated. Years of this followed, even when Francis Lee took over from Swales.

Unfortunately I see a similar pattern emerging for Newcastle. They've had Bobby Robson, Souness, Roader, Allardyce and now Keegan returns with the hope of bringing back the mid 90s era Newcastle. Can only see pain for the geordies I'm afraid. I do see them staying up but doubt they'll be successful next season either. Keegan is good at steadying ships - helped secure Man City's first trophy in years by winning the 1st division championship in 2002 and helped them regain their Premiership status after a few years up and down the leagues. I think he'll definitely steady Newcastle but don't believe it'll last too long.

I think relegation would do the club a bit of good. It might at least put some perspective into the fans minds.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing Islam on here in the noughties - but things are much better now.

Good post Sam.Swales at City-Ellis at Villa-Bates at Chelsea. These were chairmen that could'nt stop meddling and wanted success and change at all costs.

A bit like Britain under Thatcher and now Nu Labour.

Ashley will definetley give Keegan more time, but his time will be very limited, with Wisey waiting in the wings.

Newcastle are a badly run club.Too many chiefs.A bit like Chelsea, but we have the luxury of quality players that can play together and don't really need a manager imo.

Personally,i don't want to get drawn into slagging off Newcastle fans.I'm sure they're aware of the possible threat they're facing if Newcastle's form does not improve.

I've been looking at the teams in the danger zone and Newcastle do have the hardest run-in.I still think the bottom three will look like this.

Reading (hopefully)
Fulham
Derby (already down)

The only thing thats going to help Newcastle is to give Shearer the job, let him fail, and get the whole 'saviour' thing out of the way. No decent manager is ever going to take the job whilst Shearer is waiting in the wings.

Get him out of the way, then attract a decent manager and give him time.
We have need of you again, great king.

Have to concur.

Problem with Newcastle is that they (a) consider themselves a "big" club and therefore (b) have delusions of grandeur and (c) believe that they are somehow entitled to silverwear.

So when time and again it fails to materialise, the result is another round of knee-jerk sackings and false dawns.

It needs someone in there to rebuild from the ground up, consolidate and then (hopefully) success will follow.

But sadly, patience is a non-existant commidity in Geordieland so it'll probably never happen.

which is why it reminds me of Man City through the 80s and then the late 90s. Keep going on about how big they are and suddenly find themselves in the 3rd division. Taught City a very valuable lesson that did after taking their fans for granted year after year. The club had to completely rebuild itself and rebrand itself. I doubt very much they would have climbed back up the leagues so quickly if the City faithful deserted them which the club probably deserved at the time. The Newcastle faithful are now seeing the same thing. They'll be there through thick and thin but eventually will realise they're not who they think they are.

City have been settled now for a few years ironically due to Kevin Keegan's tenure and the way Bernstein changed the way the club operated. Since then Wardle and now Shinawatra have kept to those values.

I think Newcastle do have a chance under Keegan but the Newcastle board should not interfere with what he will try and do for the club and the team.Unfortunately he can never be consistant and generally loses interest after a couple of seasons. I can't see how Dennis Wise will make any difference though. Its odd that being taking over by a billionaire they've actually got worse!
