PC help please???

Post by dabbers041272 »

Hi guys
Please help, getting desperate.
My laptop has stopped connecting to the net via my wireless.
Tried plugging it straight to the hub too, that wont work.
Running VISTA by the way.
Keeps coming up with the following message:

Windows confirmed that the "Primary DNS server" is currently online but is not responding to connection attempt at this time"

The following policy might need to be adjusted to allow Windows to connect:

Policy provider: CBF

Hope someone can help

I know this is a silly question, but have you unplugged the modem for a few seconds, and tried again?

Are you actually speaking english, or are you just making up words as you go along? I do that too...

I set up my sister's wireless network for her laptop a few weeks ago and simular problems with Vista not recognising the modem occur every so often, for no apparent reason. Security type, password and SSID name all configured correctly but the laptop simply won't log into the modem/router until I wipe off the current router configuration, restart the router, and install the installation CD again.

I have the same router/modem with XP and OSX and have never had to restart/reconfigure the settings, so it seems to be a Vista issue.........AGAIN!

Anyway, try doing what I did and good luck.

There are a myriad of reasons

Would have thought your ISP would be your first stop to fix

As this guy who has a similar problem is being told

You need all the details to diagnose a problem

On my macbook, my wifi sorry airport seems to randomly switch itsself off when doing big downloads and vista seems to lose connection to the internet but not the router randomly.

I have used 3 different routers and they all over time react the same, However my wired connection NEVER drops, and on my liquid cooled main server unit never loses the wireless connection, so i'm thinking its osmething heat related on laptops.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Never had any issues with my airport and I've had a Netgear wireless router over 18 months, and the current Thompson BeBox since November last year.

I used to configure the router settings where only a certain airport ID number was allowed access to the internet; and if the powerbook had to be woken out of sleep mode I could never log back into the router, but I've just conceded that extra security to solve the issue.

Maybe during long downoads the macbook is going into hibernation, maybe?

Just a thought.

Thanks for trying guys..
I'd installed a full version of AVG and thought it could be that affecting my settings, even tho there is no firewall, only anti virus on it.
So I uninstalled it...my laptop then connected ok.
Re-installed AVG again....and my laptop still connects to the net without any probs.
Beats me! lol

I have the same problem with my Viao. It will not find my Virgin broadband via my netgear router and all parties say it's the others fault not theirs !
