Mindless Street Killings
There are some depressingly familiar aspects and themes to the Karl Taylor/Kate Bagley case ? namely knives, stabbings, mindless socipathic violence and young Afro Caribbean men. I first noted these recurring themes back in the late 70?s when I was just becoming socially aware - so they?re nothing new. But over the past decade it seems these types of incidence are now becoming a weekly, even daily, occurrence.
So is it time to examine these particular crimes in more detail and ask, what for some people, will be difficult questions? Do we at least owe that much to Karen Bagley, her parents, and all the others who have been tragically affected in similar instances? Do we owe it to those who will be affected next week, next month and next year? Or should we just look at our feet, shuffle about a bit and say??Ooh dear, is that the time?...Must dash.??
In the past Guardian reading types have sought to explain away this awkward phenomena by suggesting that it was due to institutional racism. That living in an oppressive, postcolonial, white society was driving young Afro Caribbean men doolally. So this kind of behavior was totally understandable (and therefore, presumably, acceptable). But that begs the question - why is it that we don?t often see young Asian men in court on similar charges? Why don?t we EVER see young Chinese men accused of these types of crimes?
Is it now time to confront this issue - or should we once again sweep it under the carpet for later?

You've asked lots of questions but what is your theory? What are your conclusions?

"why is it that we don?t often see young Asian men in court on similar charges? Why don?t we EVER see young Chinese men accused of these types of crimes?"
Erm...well there was the case of the japanese man who killed lucy blackman a while back and also asian men in the north of england grooming young english (re white) girls into prostitution,
Does this make you feel better ?

Seriously though, apart from a few ignorant twats, are there any racial tensions in today's society (UK only)?
I think tensions these days are more to do with religion and cultural differences, which will carry on escalating because culture and beliefs are more divisive than skin colour.

I'm not saying that we are racist's with intent Sam,unwittingly we must admit that we are a racist nation, and i don't mean just among whites. Many Afro Carribean,Asians born in Britain dislike us as well, and you can hardly blame them either.Reason why i suggested that Enoch Powell was part of the problem.
How many Blacks and Asians do you see in Pubs,,Betting shops etc. They simply feel out of place in these establishments, which should not be the case.
Powell completely ruined any chance of racial tolerance within the UK.
The riots of Brixton,Toxteth and more recentley Bradford. The brutal, racist murder of Steven Lawrence and many more Blacks being murdered by Whites and vice versa.
That is my eveidence that makes Britain as a whole a nation that is racist,or a nation of ignorance towards other ethnic groups and Nationalities.
i'm not labelling people in general as racist.

Re: Mindless Street Killings
Is Britain any more racist than other European countries such as France and Germany? Who/where isn't 'unwittingly racist' (??) Is Britain any more racist than the USA? Australia? The Middle East? Most African nations? The squabbling neighbours of mainland Europe?
The problems in this country don't stem from any of these 'ism's but they do stem from weak mindedness and misplaced guilt. Any uprising or problems are dealt with by accusations of some 'ism' or other, when the same occurs in most other countries it is 'just their way' or 'part of their culture'
Where is this non-racist utopia that Britain is the opposite of?
I find it a bit embarrassing to read of people still blaming cartoon figureheads like Powell & Thatcher for all of the percieved problems of this country when the main problems I see are over-population, spiralling underclass, corrupt greedy politicians behaving like a 'democratic dictatorship' and a war of (mostly trash) cultures trying to fill the void of 'national identity'

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Re: Mindless Street Killings
My ?Idol?? Sir, since I have only ever mentioned Enoch Powell once or twice in passing debate during the seven years since I have been posting on this forum, could you please expand on this alleged idolatry?
Also, are you suggesting that today?s racial tensions are simply down to Enoch Powell ? that they all stem from a single speech, made in 1968? How much do you actually know about Enoch Powell? Very little I?ll wager, if the tone and reasoning of your post are anything to go by.
And ?the racial society? Pray Sir, what is the racial society? How does it manifest itself? Has there been a ?racial society? since time immemorial, or just since 1968? And if indeed today?s society is ?racial?, and you view that as lamentable, how do you propose to make it ?none-racial?? I?m sure we?d all be more than intrigued to hear your, no doubt, learned views and insights on the matter.
As to me being a ?Tory Boy? once again, since I?ve never sworn allegiance to, or endorsed any particular party (indeed I?ve voted both Labour and Tory in my time) I?d be fascinated to hear how you arrived at that conclusion.
