I think lack of ambition can encourage a lazy attitude, but I don't think most dole dwellers are lazy.

Most people I've seen on the dole are either out nicking, mugging, selling drugs or mending cars on their front lawns for cash. They're certainly not fucking lazy!

They are, however, lacking in ambition. They're stuck in a rut that they get used to. They feel comfortable in it and have no ambition in crawling out.

They still have dreams I bet -don't we all?- but I still think ambition is the key.

Good post.
That 'Last Orders' made me laugh. The reason they blamed the collapse of the working man's club was down to immigrants moving in on their manor.

What a load of bollocks!!!

The reason the working man's club has collapsed is because of their ignorance and refusal to accept change and move ahaed with the times,ie:organising theme nights instead of hiring a comedian who's about as funny as a broken leg.

I've always drunk in Village pubs, rather than the poncy Town Centre pubs as more mature, diciplined people drink in village pubs. The irony being that the village pubs are suffering, while the poncy theme pubs are propering.Which comes back to the refusal to accept change.

Sad state of affairs,if you ask me.

So the moral of that story is to become less mature and more poncy? !laugh!

When i said sad state of affairs,i meant it in a scarcastic way as it's the poncy theme pubs that attract the unsavoury,anti-social human being, but it's the fault of the village pub for not heeding the wake up call and moving ahead with the times in terms of organising events, but keeping the same level of dicipline,ie:keeping the unsavoury's out

The smoking ban has'nt helped matters either, but that's another matter.

They reckon that over 19 old style village pubs in my area will shutdown by the end of next year !sad!.

I know.....that's the point.

You complained the people from that programme were stuck in the past and refused to move with the times.

Following your own advice, if pubs that do well are poncy then to move with the times your should start going out more to poncy pubs! !laugh!

You'll be alright down the Kings Road. !wink!

I don't read his column, but I remember a Channel 4 programme by him about science versus religious faith. There he clearly took the side of the faith (though pretending neutrality), and there were quite a few occasions when his arguments completely missed the point about scientific reasoning. Cannot remember what exactly, but I felt like throwing stuff at the telly.

Yes, I saw that program, and like yourself I thought he was talking cobblers on that particular occasion. He was laying into Richard Dawkins, if I recall.

Wibsey WMC

Post by ATS »

What they also failed to mention in that programme was that there are
at least 3 more clubs within half a mile of their club. There is a pub right
next door to them - that got a mention - and 3 more within 200 yards
So there is a lot of competition in the village

As I mentioned last week there is one club nearby - waiting list for
membership - that sells lager for ?1.10 all the time. Wibsey WMC said they
charge ?1.95 for carling. Where would you go if they both offer the
same facilities?

You are right about them stuck in a time warp, as were their acts
Nothing there to attract a younger audience

Wouldn't matter what they put on on Sunday night as those 25 people
were only there for the bingo. Unfortunately this is the case in most of
the clubs, as is the fact that most of their members are older people

The club and pub trade used to be a good living but there are so many
that close every week now. In my opinion you would be mad to try and
run one in this day and age

Younger audiences won't go to WMC's,as they prefer the trendy, poncy Town/City theme pubs like Yates's etc.Unless they want to go on a 'grab a granny night'.The young 'chavvy' women you definetley won't get in WMC's

The knock on effect is happening too in London.Though we don't have many WMC's barring British Legion and CIU clubs,we still have our traditional Village pubs which are suffering through the faliure to move ahead with the times.

Since the smoking ban took effect last July,it's got alot worse and will continue to do so.

Anyways.Watched that White Girl last night and found it quite interesting. With most local councils in Bradford being Asian,it's down to them to think before moving people around.

Don't forget.The Poles are coming.

Re: White Girl

This programme typified White Britain and how it is percieved in today's age.

The woman was a feckless, drunkard with no motivation in life. Her fella was a ferral bonehead who probably still struggles with the alphabet and his times tables

The kids?.With parents like that, what chance do they have?

It was all about a woman and her kids, forced out of their neighbourhood by a violent thug of a boyfriend. The council moved them into an Asian community. The young girl initially uncomfortable in the area, sees it as a 'New World' to her,but soon becomes facinated by the Islamic culture, and wants to be one of them as she gets more disillousioned and ashamed by her own culture and way of life.

Now i know it was only a play, but do you blame?, the councils for having no consideration?-or is it down to the family to deal with it?.Afterall, who are they to choose where they live?,especially if they're not contributing to the tax system?

Beggars can't be choosers,i guess.
