Richard Widmark RIP

Post by johnsix »

Died today aged 93.

Thought he was chilling as the Naval captain going paranoid in The Bedford Incident, A masterful performance.

You called that right. Channel 4 show it once every six or nine months in the afternoon. A great film, and a stellar performance---particularly up against Sidney Poitier. Widmark was a very good actor, who just never got the roles he deserved.

I recall a western involving him being chained to the wheel of a wagon, and being the only adult who survived an Indian attack and helping the kids get to safety.

Top class performer, who could even make tosh (The Long Ships, for example) enjoyable. RIP indeed.

Jeez never heard that, one of my favs - also put up a startling performance as Jim Bowie in the Alamo alongside another great John Wayne.
RIP Richard ...
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Probably the last of the great Hollywood actors. His presence made the picture worthwhile. Watched the Alamo again recently and remember thinking he was the only star from that left alive, sadly no longer.
