This Labour government is in favour of big increases in nuclear power. Do you think that this is wise or not ?

Re: Nuclear Power, yes or no?
Nuclear power is cheap, efficient and doesn't pollute the environment. The trouble is what to do with the waste. Finding a way of harnessing power from nuclear waste is being looked into and a viable option but I think there is the problem of instability....for now.
Dumping nuclear waste in space is something that could be done now, but accidents happen and we wouldn't want a rocket full of the stuff failing a launch now would we?
Right now, nuclear is the best option available.

Scotland and Wales will not have nuclear.
Build a station in Greater London if it is so safe, Sam.

a nuclear reactor is no less hazardous than a chlorine production site for example, they will never be built in a major city, only on the coast due to the vast amounts of water required
we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

Watch them getting dumped on Scotland, Wales and the North to give the Home Counties cheap fuel!

Well, I live in the north, so yeah....London sounds good, 'colonel'.
Mike just asked what we thought of nuclear power.....not the politics behind it. We live on a small island so if one goes tits-up living further away is a longer death. I prefer to go quickly so.....

Scotland under Alex S has said they wont allow more nuclear power stations while they are in power and most of the other operational ones are already in england

I think there's an increasing scientific consensus that it's not so much what we want or don't, as the fact that we're rapidly approaching the point of no choice. I can't see any other viable option now, myself.
James Lovelock may be a maverick but he's been right on so many things and so far in advance of others. He reckons that it's the only way to limit our worst excesses and still supply the demand for energy.
