Maybe it was in the 60's and early seventies - but apparently not anymore. The left hasn't been feeling very progressive about sex since it was overtaken by a new fashion fad in the early 70's - namely wimmin's lib (or 'wimmin's ishoos'). The loony philosophy behind this is that sex is exploitive of wimmin' and that all men are evil rapists. The divi dykes and earnest metrosexuals who expound this philosophy suggest that sex was invented by men to oppress wimmin' and keep them at home producing and nurturing babies - when in actual fact what wimmin' really wanted was to be hunter-gathers, e.g., paratroopers, bricklayers, and annoying prospective executives on Alan Sugar?s Apprentice show. How foolish and reactionary were we in the old days when we thought men and women were two entirely discrete things who each had separate, exclusive, socio-biological roles to fulfill within the human species.

I agree, Deuce.

The only solution to overcrowding is the prevention of crime in the first place. It's modern society and peoples habits that is the main cause as far as I can see. 30-50 years ago you could walk 200 yards without saying 'mornin', 'how-do' to somebody, but car use has taken 90% of decent citizens off the streets and your odd 'gang', or mugger are left to reign supreme. People complain that gangs have taken over our streets, but in reality, we left the streets for them.

Because we live in our cars we're less sociable. We stop bumping into our neighbours and never find out their names....so why would we care if they're having trouble with a gang of kids?

We need people AND coppers back on the streets. We need to bump into our neighbours on the way to the pub/shop and complain about the weather, or Mrs Robinson, who you're sure is shagging the milkman!

I'll lay my hat on stating the communities that know eachother's names, kids and pets, are the communities who both feel safer, and have less hassle with crime and gangs.

Well said Sam but I fear this logic seems to fall on deaf ears as the governments solution is to make more prisons and super prisons as if the problem is going to go away.

These guys need a reality check. The problem is not going to be swept under the carpet. In fact I think the government wants this so that they can turn this country into a police state with us tax payers funding it through our fear which blinds us to the real solution of reducing crime in the first place.

More likely you put some recalcitrant youth behind bars who was already angry at society (usually they are quite intelligent and bored youths themselves) he will believe that society is shit and therefore all mugs should be ripped off because the world is a shit place..So guess what? He comes out with a more smarter approach to being a criminal unless he can find focus and inspiration that makes him not want to be a decent model citizen...but one without realising it. ie black rappers made good sudenly voting republican = black people made good suddenly voting conservative is the obvious one that comes to mind.

Doesnt take a psychologist to work it out but no doubt they will make it an experiment with rats at some high brow Cambridge University and report the statistics on Yahoo news for us to read over our afternoon tea.
