Alice puts it on a par with killing lions in Africa. I think it's even worse than that nasty "sport", because at least the lions have a shot at escaping into the bush. It's worse even than the Japs exploiting the loophole in the international anti-whaling legislation that allows them to kill whales for so-called "scientific research".

This really ought to be stopped as there's no justification for it whatsoever.

And look what happened to the dodo (bludgeoned to extinction by club-wielding morons in the exact same way), the passenger pigeon (once the world's most common bird in terms of sheer numbers, yet hunted to extinction) and the North American buffalo (virtually wiped out by mankind). And countless other species as well.

One of these days, the world will decide that seals are suddenly an endangered species, there'll be a great big flap over it, politicians will come over all concerned and pass legislation (complete with loopholes, no doubt) - but by then it will be too late.

The press don't like to report THAT side of her family, and instead report on his safari's, but its well known that he invites big hunters for some 'culling' but the upshot is, its plain big game hunting.

Ironic the cowards have to kill the animals in an enclosure... no chance of escape for the animal or injury or death to the killer!

Alice (I misread your earlier post) / Ace / Shelley - have to admit that I was unaware of such a barbaric practice and am horrified to hear of it.

Shocking when you think that the lion's range (and indeed that of other big cats) used to extend as far as southern Europe and east Asia, but over the centuries they've been pushed back into small areas of tropical and sub-tropical Africa - and it's all down to Man.

I was talking about conservation with the Mrs just the other day, and we came to the conclusion that - as a species - Man has been TOO successful.

Only a matter of time before nature looks at the whole fucking mess we've created and decides that it's time to tear it all down and start again (via a nice super-lethal pandemic or something along those lines). Either that or we'll end up nuking each other into extinction after quarrelling over the ever-dwindling supply of natural resources and fresh water needed to sustain a global human population that's expanding at way beyond the rate that the planet can cope with.

A sad and sorry state of affairs indeed.
