Abolition of 10% tax rate

Today sees the abolition of the 10% tax band & a reduction of 2p on the 22% band to 20p in the pound.

Most economic commentators agree that the abolition of the 10% band will result in a net tax increase for those on the lowest incomes.

Saw Andrew Marr's interview with John Denham (Minister for work & pensions) this morning, Marr was pressing Denham on the point but Denham was having none of it, we "should all look at the bigger picture", only "one half of one percent" would see their tax increase, the cnut did realise that this still represents hundreds of thousands of the lowest income families in the land. Like all Nulabour/Old Conservative ministers I'm sure he doesn't give a damn.

Funny how policies like this never affect the politicians, they would just vote themselves an increase in pay/perks to cover any deductions.

Roll on the revolution.

I personally would abolish tax on the lowest paid workers and start taxing at ?250, that way some of these work-shy dossers would get off their lazy arses and start working for a living.
When they can get the same in benefits compared to working, you can see why this country is going to the wall

This will effect those on low and part time salaries - a significant proportion of which are women. I was under the impression that this government was suppose to be pro-women?

Like Ace I would like to see tax & NI abolished for the lowest paid to create an incentive to get people off benefit by them ending up with significantly more cash working 40 hours at minimum wage than they can get on benefits.

Surely the saving on benefits not paid would be greater than the tax not received.

Working People Tax Credits and Family Tax Credits will mean that most families will, net, be better off.
